Explain how representations in music videos are chosen to promote the artist(s).
Massive Attack: Unfinished Symphony
In the music video, people are represented as real life characters which creates a realistic element to the video. For example, the teenage gang which are shown on the streets is a real location with real life people who are not characters. In the background of the music video, Daddy G and his son are following Shara as they walk, this shows a more everyday aspect as the band appears amongst others they look like normal everyday people. 3D comes from a phone box and we see Mushroom too. People of different social class , ethnicity and background are shown in the music video to represent different people in everyday life which makes it more realistic. Video makers are working with a song that is non traditional as there's anti-star which basically means that it don't stand out. In this music video, there's a traditional front person who is arguably a charismatic performance/performer. This music video itself is a ground breaking video considering it's all in just one long tracking shot which means that it doesn't cut away and nothing has been edited. This portrays a good representation of the artist because it emphasizes their skill as an artist.

This music video may come across as different perspectives from a range wide of audience's as different interpretations are produced. This music video could show a representation of being weird and an unusual way of representing a band.The music video uses a stop motion effect which is a version linked to a 60's kids TV show.Also, the music video has no star image as it doesn't even feature the leader of the band: Thom Yorke which suggests a different representation of the basis of the music video. This also suggests that they tried to do something different and unique for a change so that it creates a imaginative idea. This alternative perspective portrays the open minded ideas used for the music video. The thematic video contains a story which is mainly about the demonisation of something as it's demonising a belief.
