Music Video Revision - Massive Attack: Unfinished Sympathy

The song: 'Unfinished Sympathy' by Massive Attack is about when your life feels as if it's stopped because of a heartbreak however, life goes on which is presented on the street Shara Nelson walks on. Unfinished Sympathy conveys the message that even if you have a heartbreak or if you feel as if your life is falling apart because of another person, life will still carry on the same way it did.

In the music video, people are represented as real life characters which creates a realistic element to the video. For example, the teenage gang which are shown on the streets is a real location with real life people who are not characters. In the background of the music video, Daddy G and his son are following Shara as they walk, this shows a more everyday aspect as the band appears amongst others they look like normal everyday people. 3D comes from a phone box and we see Mushroom too. People of different social class , ethnicity and background are shown in the music video to represent different people in everyday life which makes it more realistic. Video makers are working with a song that is non traditional as there's anti-star which basically means that it don't stand out. In this music video, there's a traditional front person who is arguably a charismatic performance/performer. This music video itself is a ground breaking video considering it's all in just one long tracking shot which means that it doesn't cut away and nothing has been edited. This portrays a good representation of the artist because it emphasizes their skill as an artist.
